Emergency Medicine
Pediatric residents, faculty and nurse practitoners care for serious illness and trauma in the Child and Adolescent Emergency Department. This continually updated, dynamic emergency unit is designed for the rapid assessment and treatment of patients needing urgent care, and for the care of other seriously ill patients. ED faculty include physicians from the Division of General Pediatrics and Emergency Care. The Pediatric Emergency Department includes the Virginia Poison Center, which has a full-time staff to answer all patient calls, and the Child Protection Team to orchestrate child abuse investigations.
**A NEW Pediatric Emergency Room is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010!
