Salaries and Financial Assistance

Residents in the program earn competitive salaries, in addition to stipends, book allowance, and paid vacations, among other benefits listed on the Graduate Medical Education Web site.

Benefits

Residents in the program receive three weeks paid vacation each academic year. Other benefits, including liability insurance, health insurance, on-call meals and the opportunity to do an away rotation are provided.

  5. Daycare: On-site daycare is accessible to residents with children up to age 5 (age 12 in summer) with convenient hours (6 a.m.-midnight) at a competitive cost. Daycare openings are available on a first come first serve basis. Daycare acceptance is not guaranteed.
  6. Backup Care Advantage Program: Employees can use this service when they need to be at work and their regular child care or elder care is unavailable.
  7. Conference leave: PGY-3 residents may attend a national or regional conference of their choice.

Moonlighting
Moonlighting is permitted for PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents who have met the qualifications, have acquired full and independent licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and have appropriate liability insurance coverage. Moonlighters must comply with the new ACGME requirements.  In-house moonlighting is available in the NICU.
