VCU Health System Again Ranks Among “America’s Best Hospitals”

Only medical center in central Virginia to be ranked in U.S. News’ 2008 report for second consecutive year

The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has been ranked in U.S. News Media Group’s 2008 publication of America’s Best Hospitals. The VCU Health System was one of 170 medical centers to be ranked among the best out of a survey of nearly 5,500 hospitals.

Specifically, the VCU Health System was noted for excellence in rehabilitation, ranking 25th in the country for dealing with difficult or complex cases. It also ranked 49th in urology for treatment of urological disorders, including prostate cancer, and 50th in the country for treating people with kidney disease.

The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System is one of 173 medical centers nationwide to be named in U.S. News & World Report’s 2007 rankings of America's Best Hospitals.

The VCU Health System was the only medical center or hospital in central Virginia to be named among the best hospitals. The U.S. News & World Report annual survey evaluated nearly 5,500 hospitals, with fewer than 200 meeting the standard in one or more area.


VCU Health System Named Greater Richmond Area

The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System was named the Greater Richmond Area Employer of Choice at the annual All Star Awards presented by the Richmond Human Resources Management Association and the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce.

The award recognizes that the VCU Health System, with 7,500 employees, embodies a set of principles that are honored, a culture that is well defined and most importantly, is characterized by satisfied employees. The award recognizes organizations that distinguish themselves as great employers.


VCU Health System Earns National Magnet Nursing Designation


Recognition is nation’s highest honor for nursing excellence

The American Nurses Credentialing Center has awarded the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Magnet status, the highest honor and level of recognition the group awards to nursing excellence in national and international healthcare.


Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Named One of Top 100 Best Companies in the United States for Working Mothers

The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has been named one of the 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers by Working Mother magazine, which lauded the organization’s program to advance women in the medical sciences, its employee-only OB-GYN clinic, and its on-site child-care centers.


VCU Medical Center Physicians Listed Among America’s Best Doctors

VCU Medical Center doctors figured prominently in recent local and national surveys. Sixty-eight full-time physicians received high marks from their peers in the latest “Top Docs” survey conducted by Richmond Magazine for its April issue.

The magazine received 403 completed surveys. Of the 68 full-time doctors cited from the VCU Medical Center, 18 were voted best in their field. Dr. William H. Benson, chair of Department of Ophthalmology, was voted best in two specialties.



  

VCU Health System Makes Honor Roll for Companies That Care

VCUHS was placed on the fourth annual Honor Roll by the Center for Companies That Care. The health system was one of 27 companies nationwide selected for the quality of its work environment.



VCU Division of Trauma Celebrates National Verification as a Level I Trauma Center

VCUHS, site of central Virginia’s only Level I trauma center, received national verification as a Level I trauma center by the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma. The achievement recognizes VCUHS’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients and demonstrated exceptional competency in a wide variety of specialty areas, including teaching and research.

VCU LifeEvac earned full verification by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).

VCU Medical Center’s MCV Hospitals Named Top 100 Hospitals In Nation

MCV Hospitals of the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center has been named one of the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals in the United States for 2002. Solucient Corporation—which maintains the country’s largest healthcare data base—announced the awards today when it released its latest survey: “100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success Class of 2002.”
