Friday, April 16, 2010 - Richmond Magazine Top Docs Issue Recognizes 23 VCU Children's Medical Center physicians

VCU Medical Center physicians figured prominently in Richmond Magazine’s latest Top Docs survey, which asked Richmond-area physicians whom they would recommend in a range of specialties.

In the magazine’s April issue, 92 full-time VCU Medical Center physicians appeared on the list, five of them appearing in more than category.

Richmond Magazine sent letters to 3,519 doctors, alerting them to an online survey. From the list of licensed practitioners obtained from the Virginia Department of Health Professions, 484 replied to the survey, for a return rate of nearly 14 percent.

“It’s an honor to see so many of our VCU Medical Center physicians recognized among their peers in these various specialties,” said Sheldon Retchin, M.D., CEO of the VCU Health System and vice president of health sciences. “Their achievements are merited by their dedication and commitment to patient care, and I proudly commend them for their continued service.”

This is the seventh time Richmond Magazine has conducted the survey. Similar surveys were conducted in 1988, 1998, 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2008.

In addition, two VCU Medical Center physicians were recognized in special-honors categories. Stephanie Call, M.D., program director of the internal medicine training program and associate chair for education in the Department of Internal Medicine, was recognized in the Teacher/Mentor category; and Harold Young, M.D., chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, was recognized in a special Lifetime Achievement column for his contributions to the field of neurosurgery.
