VCU Children's works with local businesses, community groups, and individuals to provide the best possible health care for our children. Our community has shown a tremendous amount of support during the annual Telethon, and we look forward to an even larger success this year.

The Telethon will feature stories of courageous children who have overcome illness, defeated disease, and are now back to being kids again. These patients are living testimonies to hope, and the world-class care that is provided in our community.

A live segment from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm will feature patient stories, healthcare provider interviews, and sponsorship presentations. Live updates and totals will run throughout the evening beginning at 5:00 pm and ending with the conclusion of the 11:00 pm news.

Every dollar raised from service clubs, individuals, corporations, and foundations will stay in our community to help advance pediatric clinical care, provide ground-breaking research, and help train the pediatricians of the future.

Who we are

VCU Children’s Medical Center is the only full-service healthcare facility for children in central Virginia. We are a comprehensive medical team trained in the science and art of caring for children. Our team is dedicated to improving child health through state-of-the-art clinical care, research, and education.

What we do

VCU Children’s provides comprehensive medical care for critically ill and injured children regardless of the families’ ability to pay. Each year, we provide approximately 100,000 outpatient visits, 450 air and ground transports, 19,000 ER visits, 1,000 intensive care admissions, and nearly 3,500 acute care admissions. We also educate and train future medical professionals and conduct groundbreaking research to improve the health of our community’s children.

Who we serve

VCU Children’s serves children of the central Virginia region and beyond from birth through adolescence. In addition, we work with community pediatricians and neighboring hospitals in need of consultations with our specialists.

Meet our kids

MAYA
Each year, VCU Children’s helps over 400 premature babies like Maya survive and thrive. Baby Maya was born weighing less than 2 pounds. At birth her tiny body fit in the palm of her mother’s hand. She is now a healthy toddler.
Maya
Julia
JULIA
Just 24 hours after life-saving surgery to correct a large hole in her heart, Julia was back to being a spunky kid. The only reminder of Julia’s surgery is a small scar on her hip from where a catheter was inserted to repair the hole. Advanced technologies at VCU Children’s enable pediatric cardiologists to fix birth defects with non-invasive surgery, decreasing the need for a child to undergo open-heart surgery.

NAOMI AND ZECHARIAH
Both Naomi and her brother Zechariah spend countless days a year at VCU Children’s for the management and treatment of Cystic Fibrosis (CF). They pass the time with visits from their favorite therapy dogs, fun in the Child Life playrooms, and completing school work with hospital teachers.

Mackenzie
MACKENZIE
Young Mackenzie became very familiar with the halls of VCU Children’s after being diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a central nervous system (CNS) tumor. The nurses loved to see her roaming the halls, stethoscope in hand, acting like a little doctor on call. Her playfulness helped ease the long hospital stays for her family. Her spirit makes it hard to believe that she has recently battled cancer.
