When 1-month-old Devaan Casimiro arrived at Children's Hospital of Richmond on Dec.1, he was malnourished and battling multiple infections. Upon his arrival, Casimiro was admitted to the NICU where he immediately received care from multiple specialists in areas such as neonatology, cardiology, infectious disease, hematology, anesthesia and surgery.
Casimiro ultimately received months of medical care and nutritional support, and he underwent several operations to repair his intestinal obstruction and anorectal malformation. According to his mother, Elvira Lino, Casimiro is now thriving.

Attending diabetes camp improves diabetes education, self-management skills, and blood sugar control. It is also one of the best ways for children to meet other kids their age with diabetes.

CHoR has a long history of treating traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and recently designated a comprehensive TBI clinic to address the needs of patients suffering from head injuries. The clinic will also address the needs of local students as Virginia works to implement new legislation around concussions in the student athlete and medical clearance to return to play.

It's a new day for pediatric emergency care! On December 8, 2010, CHoR opened its new pediatric emergency room, the only one in Central Virginia to offer 24-hour access to all pediatric specialists for the care of critically ill and injured children.

CHoR will open the new 10,000 square-foot pediatric emergency room on the MCV Campus in the Critical Care Hospital. The new rainforest-themed ER will have its own entrance, waiting room, treatment rooms and dedicated pediatric radiology suite.
